Tuwe Pamoja in Kenya

Tuwe Pamoja focuses on four key African cities, among which is Nairobi, Kenya. With the goal to collaboratively design and implement nature-based solutions (NbS) for sustainable urban development, project activities will be centred in the Mathare informal settlement.

Mathare is transversed by the river and subject to pollution. However, it also has community-led ecosystem restoration initiatives which make it suitable for profiling and investigating NbS.

Academic leads for this city come from the University of Nairobi, with support from Slum Dwellers International Kenya. Primary stakeholders involved include the National Government, the Nairobi City County Government, Water Resource Management Authorities, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), private sector, development partners and academia.
